We’ve taken the complex concepts involved in golf and turned them into simple, memorable metaphors that are FUN and effective.

Our Mission

The goal of Birdie Basics is to empower children as young as age 3 via golf—and, by extension, grow the game.

Birdie Basics was developed by Kate Tempesta’s Urban Golf Academy in New York City. This unique, effective curriculum is the result of hundreds of golf classes that Kate and her staff taught to toddlers and young kids for more than 10 years. We’ve refined and packaged it into Birdie Basics so that young children across the country (and around the world) can fall in love with the game of golf—or at the very least have fun while building self-confidence.

Birdie Basics is designed to:

We use proprietary teaching methods—such as Birdie-isms, Magic Shoes, and Magic Tracks— to ensure that young golfers grasp and develop sound golfing techniques while also having lots of fun.

Meet Our Founder

**Kate Tempesta** is a well-respected figure in the golf community, recognized not only for her accomplishments as an LPGA Teaching and Club Professional but also for her extensive background in early childhood education and exercise science. Her accolades include being listed among **GOLF Magazine’**s Top 100 Teachers in America, *40 Most Influential People in Golf under 40,* **Golf Digest’**s Best Young Teachers, Best In State and America’s 50 Best Women Teachers
In addition to her teaching accolades, she has created the Birdie Basics curriculum, which focuses on teaching young golfers. She plays a crucial role in training Birdie Basics instructors through various methods, including video sessions and in-person events, ensuring that they are well-equipped to teach the curriculum effectively. This combination of experience and dedication makes her a significant contributor to the development of youth golf education.
